SUN Bucks Program Bulletin - Week of January 26, 2026

Recording the Funds – Source Code Correction

A previous bulletin stated that payments would appear with the description “SEBT Transfer Program Aid Reimbursement” and should be recorded using UFARS Source Code 300. This was incorrect. Payments should be recorded using UFARS Source Code 370. The fund dimension should align with where the SUN Bucks program administrative costs were recorded.

Correct UFARS Source Code: RXX-XXX-XXX-XXX-370.

Unclaimed cards

If parents or guardians fail to pick-up SUN Bucks benefit card(s) by February 1, 2026, return unclaimed cards to the following address:

Minnesota Department of Children, Youth and Families
EBT Section
PO Box 64965
St. Paul, MN 55164-0965

If efforts to reach the household are unsuccessful, schools may return the cards before the deadline.

Preparing for SUN Bucks 2026

SUN Bucks is back for Summer 2026! This program provides eligible students $120 in grocery benefits over the summer to ensure access to food they normally get at school.

The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) and the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families will be submitting our Plan for Operations and Management (POM) for Summer 2026 in mid-February to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

As our teams are getting ready for another summer of SUN Bucks, you should be too!

Here are some steps you can take right now to make sure you’re ready to upload student data once the portal opens this spring.

  1. Encourage your families who are not directly certified to complete their Application (AEB) for Educational Benefits so they can receive their SUN Bucks benefits as soon as possible once you upload your data. We have resources available on our website to help promote the AEB in your district and get your families to “Fill the Form”. Please note that if you are a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school, your students must be deemed eligible on an individual basis via an approved AEB.
  2. Confirm the person uploading your data has access to the SUN Bucks EDU-Portal via EDIAM. For more information about this process, you can visit our website and download the Two-step Process for SUN Bucks EDU-Portal Access resource under the SUN Bucks Eligibility Data Upload Portal (EDU-Portal) Resources subtier.
  3. Ensure student records are up to date with current household mailing addresses, guardianship details, and contact information to ensure SUN Bucks cards are delivered correctly.
  4. Update the Minnesota Automated Reporting Student System (MARSS) to reflect eligible students.
  5. Nonpublic schools should collaborate with local public schools to assign State Student ID numbers.
