The following is a list of summer opportunities for both Trade and Industry teachers and their students.

Check the links for each to get more information about the opportunity, updates about the offering, or to learn about other opportunities the organization may offer.

Teacher Professional Development

Agricultural Robotics and Automation Technician Training

  • The Agriculture, Robotics, Automation, & Technology (ARAT) Project is an National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded initiative that brings together community colleges, secondary educators, and industry partners to develop curriculum and professional development in agricultural robotics and automation.

Alexandria Technical and Community College (ATCC) Manufacturing Training for High School Faculty

  • Alexandria Technical and Community College (ATCC) hosts annual manufacturing trainings for high school faculty. The trainings are free, but only for Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers. Contact Amy Haggerty the Career and Technical Education Coordinator for ATCC for more information.

America’s Cutting Edge (ACE) Composite Bootcamps

  • America's Cutting Edge (ACE) Composite's free bootcamps offer the hands-on experience of composite technology to those interested in learning more about carbon fiber and fiberglass. Teachers learn how to make composites using thermoset and thermoplastic processing methods. Participants must be seventeen or older.

Briggs and Stratton Field School for Small Engine Instructors

  • Each summer, Holdingford High School hosts a multi-day workshop for small engine instructors run by trainers from Briggs and Stratton (Power Distributors). For more information, contact John Roberts from Holdingford Agriculture Education Department.

Code.Org Computer Science Professional Learning Workshops

  • Code.org provides five-day summer workshops to middle and high school teachers to explore computer science curriculum and to develop lesson plans and teaching strategies.

Computer Science Teacher Association (CSTA) Annual Conference

  • The national CSTA Annual Conference provides teacher with the community of support needed to make local and national connections.

CYBER.ORG EdCon

  • CYBER.ORG EdCon is a national summer conference designed to inspire and empower novice and expert K-12 cybersecurity educators alike.

Empower{MN:CS} Conference

  • Empower{MN:CS} is a summer state conference designed to provide K-12 teachers with the guidance, support, and resources to ignite student passions for computing.

InnoCrate STEM Teacher Workshop

  • This free, immersive, hands-on professional development opportunity hosted on Winona State University campus is designed to introduce Grades 3-5 STEM teachers to the InnoCrate curriculum—an innovative program focused on preparing students for future careers in engineering and manufacturing, including composites, CNC machining, and metal casting.

LWT (Lynnes Welding Training) Training

  • LWT provides year-round welding instruction at one location in Minnesota and two locations in North Dakota.

Microelectronics in the Classroom

  • The Microelectronics Mini-Externship & Curriculum Training is a professional learning experience for secondary educators who want to bring real-world microelectronics, semiconductor, and advanced manufacturing concepts into their classrooms.

Midwest Teachers of Transportation and Industrial Areas (MTTIA) Summer Conference

  • Each year, in August, secondary and post-secondary transportation instructors from around the Midwest meet for professional development, training, and networking.

North American Council of Automotive Teachers (NACAT) Conference

  • The conference is an annual national event that brings together automotive educators and professionals from North America.

Professional Learning byDesign

  • International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA) Professional Learning byDesign trainings and courses are in depth learning experiences, equivalent to semester-long graduate-level classes. Teachers will dive into the curriculum to learn how to transform their teaching and ignite their students’ passion for engineering technology education

Riverland Consortium Welding Training

  • A summer course designed to help educators teach welding and fabrication techniques to their students is being offered at Austin High School. Please contact Ryan Stanley for more details.

SCSU WBL Endorsement Option/Summer Workshops

  • St. Cloud State University (SCSU)'s Department of Environmental and Technological Studies offers a number of online and in-person courses to assist Trade and Industry teachers with licensure, including courses for a work based learning endorsement.

Siemens Engineering Design Summer Teacher Training

  • This immersive, in-person professional development experience is designed for 9th-12th grade educators interested in implementing the Siemens Engineering Design curriculum in their classrooms.

Small Gas Engine (SGE) BriefCASE

  • Small Gas Engine is a specialization-level module in the Mechanical Systems in Agriculture series for high school teachers. The module provides technical applications to mechanical systems, using small gas engines as an instructional tool.

Train the Trainers

  • A three-day workshop for Agriculture, STEM, and Trade and Industry teachers will include training in four core areas: welding, plumbing, electrical, and construction.

Minneapolis Regional Chamber Educator Externship

  • The Minneapolis Regional Chamber Educator Externship program brings career-based learning to life. Educators are immersed in the day-to-day operations of key regional employers.

Resource Trainings and Solutions Teacher Externship Program

  • The purpose of the Teacher Externship Program is to bring career-based classroom curricula to life, while building a bridge between skill-based and knowledge-based education.

Sourcewell School-to-Business Connections

  • Sourcewell sponsors week-long, paid externships for teachers to work with a local business to help build school-business relationships and connect educators and classrooms with real world skills to help build the bridge from classroom to career.

South Central Service Cooperative Teacher Externships

  • The Teacher Externship Program brings career-based classroom curricula to life, while building a bridge between skill-based and knowledge-based education. Educators work side-by-side with an industry peer during a three to five day paid summer externship at a participating south central Minnesota business.

Trades in Every Classroom

  • The Trades in Every Classroom Externship Program gives educators a behind-the-scenes look at today’s workplaces. This cohort-based professional learning experience is designed to make instruction more relevant, engaging, and career-connected for students in grades 6-12.

Aviation Summer Camps

Experimental Aircraft Association (EEA) Air Academy

  • Led by passionate aviators, students aged 14-18 soar into the realm of aviation through immersive studies, captivating demonstrations, exhilarating flight simulations, and a myriad of other thrilling experiences.

Minnesota Aviation Career Education (ACE) Camp

  • The ACE student summer program includes educational demonstrations, hands-on activities, and the opportunity to pilot a single-engine aircraft, a glider, a helicopter, and a full-motion airline simulator with a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Certified Flight Instructor.

Organization of Black Aerospace Professional (OBAP) Aerospace Career Education (ACE) Academy

  • The ACE Academy is a multi-day event for middle and high school students that have a general interest in learning about aviation. The program offers students a hands-on experience of learning the aviation history, fundamentals of aerodynamics, the role of government in aviation and the many careers available in the aerospace field.

STARBASE Summer Next Gen 2026

  • The STARBASE summer programs are designed to inspire students entering grades 4-6 by planning a mission to Mars in a four-day program.

Thunderbird Aviation Young Flyers

  • The Young Flyers Flying Camp is a summer camp focusing on cross-country flying, communications, airspace, navigation, and weather.

Computer Science Summer Camps

CodeNinjas STEM Technology & Coding Camps

  • CodeNinjas provides a hands-on learning experience for technology-loving children ages 5-14.

High Tech Kids LEGO Robotics Coding Camps

  • Camp participants will be challenged with Coding/Programming LEGO SPIKE Prime robots to accomplish missions/tasks on a past FIRST LEGO League field. They will be encouraged to design and modify the provided basic robot to aid in completing these challenges.

Girls Who Code Pathways

  • This seven-week program is a free, flexible online learning opportunity for students who want to learn coding at their own pace this summer.

Under the Hood - Machine Learning and AI Summer Program

  • The program is an immersive summer experience where high school students explore the power of machine learning, data science and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

University of Minnesota Summer Computing Academy

  • The university offers two programs for female students (junior high and high school) in June. The main goal of this program is to teach computer programming using python in an intense hands-on program. For information about 2026 academy, contact Professor Maria Gini.

The Works Museum Coding Camps

  • Explore coding, sequencing, and logic at coding camps for kids ages 6-12. Campers can program their own robot creations, assemble a Raspberry Pi system, use Python coding language, and more.

Construction Summer Camps

Herdina Construction Trades Camp

  • High school students age 15+ get a hands-on experience and classroom instruction in a variety of specialty occupations within the residential and commercial construction industry on the Moorhead State campus.

MN Trades Academy

  • The MN Trades Academy (MTA) offers paid summer construction internship experiences for selected high school youth.

Minnesota Society of Professional Surveyors (MSPS) Measure, Map & Model Land Surveying Summer Camp

  • This one-day camp will provide campers an opportunity to learn about and use cutting edge land surveying, geospatial, and measuring technology and gain first-hand insights into how the work of land surveyors and mapping professionals shapes and defines the built environment. University of Minnesota MnRI Technology Day Camp

  • The Minnesota Robotics Institute hosts a Technology Day Camp for students in grades 6th through 8th. Participants will learn about robots and robotic technology through fun, hands-on activities.

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)

University of Minnesota Discover STEM Camp

  • During the interactive summer programs, students will network with peers while learning about current topics in research and exploring academic programs and career pathways through presentations, laboratory tours, science experiments, technology demonstrations, and question-and-answer sessions.

University of Minnesota Rochester Summer STEAM Camp

  • These week-long immersive STEAM-focused summer camps provide a unique opportunity to engage in hands-on, applied learning in science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM).

Transportation Summer Camps

Minnesota State Nitro-X Summer Camps

  • The camps offers students the opportunity to explore careers in transportation through hands-on activities with radio controlled (RC) cars. This includes learning about how vehicles work, building their confidence with technical skills, working in teams to develop life and employability skills, gaining exposure to industry and showing off their RC skills with a race.

Titan Machinery Student Camps

  • The camps are designed for students interested in exploring what it's like to work in the heavy-equipment industry, regardless of their background or experience level. Partnering with local colleges, there are two avenues of camp programs: Diesel Camps and Precision Camps.

University of Minnesota CAV Career Pathways Camp

  • The one-week day camp is for high school students interested in vehicles and the latest technology. Students learn about connected and automated vehicle (CAV) technology and explore career opportunities in a cutting-edge industry that will help shape the future of transportation.

University of Minnesota National Summer Transportation Institute

  • This free two-week summer day camp at the University of Minnesota will introduce students to the many aspects of the transportation field. Students go on field trips around the Twin Cities, participate in hands-on lab activities, and learn from experts about what it’s like to work in transportation.
