Reminder: Statewide Health Standards are Being Created by Minnesotans from Varying Perspectives and Backgrounds

In accordance with Minnesota Statutes, Minnesota is in the process of creating statewide Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards in Health. The standards are being created for Minnesota public school students, by Minnesotans. The Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards for Health creation is being conducted by a committee that includes members with varying perspectives and backgrounds from across Minnesota. Minnesota Statutes outline who must be represented on the committee. This includes parents, currently licensed and in the classroom teachers, licensed school administrators, school board members, postsecondary institution faculty teaching core subjects and business community members. The committee must also be in consultation with Minnesota Department of Health and Minnesota’s Department of Human Services.

Reminder: Initial Public Comment Period for the Health Standards Ends January 5

The public is invited to provide feedback through the Initial Health Standards Public Comment online survey as Minnesotans develop Health Academic Standards. This public review and comment period is from December 11, 2024 – January 5, 2025. Learn more information about the standards review process on the Health Standards webpage

Making effective public comments is an important way to help shape health standards in our state. It’s important to share clear, well-thought-out ideas, using facts or examples from local or national health standards. Comments should be respectful, on topic and offer helpful suggestions within the requirements of the law.  Offering specific ideas that can be put into action can make a real difference and help create necessary health standards for all students in Minnesota.
