10 Library Construction Grants Awarded
State Library Services announces the recipients of the FY24 library construction grants. The awardees are: City of Belle Plaine, Calumet Public Library, City of Cass Lake, City of Cook, City of Dassel, City of Detroit Lakes, Redwood Falls Public Library, Spring Grove Public Library, City of Spring Valley, and City of Silver Bay.
Four million in grants have been awarded to these 10 library construction projects from the FY24 library construction grant process. The 2024 construction grants will support nearly $11 million in total project costs between the recipients. These funds were made possible through legislative bonding during the 2023 session.
Among the grants awarded, eight are improvement grants and two are accessibility grants. Some of the projects include upgrading HVAC systems and roofing, creating ADA-compliant entrances and bathrooms, and creating additional space for library programming.
State Library Services extends a huge “thank you” to all of the construction grant reviewers who helped make this process possible. We appreciate you!

Antibiotic Stewardship Library Display
Your library can help save lives!
All Minnesotans play a part in keeping antibiotics effective. Together, we can raise awareness of the significant impact antibiotic resistance has on the health of our world and ensure that infections can be treated effectively for generations to come.
The Minnesota One Health Antibiotic Stewardship Collaborative (MOHASC) at the Minnesota Department of Health is excited to offer a comprehensive set of materials to help your library promote antibiotic stewardship for humans, animals, and the environment. Materials include infographics, question and answer content, coloring and word search pages, and a curated list of books and films.
Your library can gather relevant materials from your collection to complement the display. Each library will have the flexibility to set up the display in a way that works best for their space, with instructions and layout ideas included for guidance.
To request the display materials for your library, please fill out the Antibiotic Stewardship Display Materials Request Form. Libraries who request these materials will receive them by mail. Please contact health.stewardship@state.mn.us with any questions.
Please join us for an interactive Zoom webinar on Wednesday, September 18 at 2 p.m. to learn about the available display materials and ask questions.

Digital Equity Competitive Grants Open
In late July, the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) announced the availability of nearly $1 billion to fund programs that ensure communities have access to devices and skills needed to fully participate in the digital world, regardless of their background or circumstances.
This is the first funding opportunity from the Digital Equity Act’s $1.25 billion Competitive Grant Program. Eligible entities for this program include local government agencies, not-for-profits, workforce development programs, and community anchor institutions like libraries.
Application resources are available on the BroadbandUSA website. NTIA expects to begin making awards under this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) by winter 2024. NTIA plans to issue awards made under the Competitive Grant Program on a rolling basis.
NTIA is hosting a series of webinars about the grant program and application process through mid-September. Register to attend, or check the website for recordings of webinars you've missed.
Applications are due by September 23.
