Disruptions to the following MDE systems may limit the type of services and functions that can be performed. Affected systems include but are not limited to:

- MDE data management systems (e.g., MARSS, Ed-Fi, MDE-ORG, TestWES, DIRS, Summer EBT, Stepwell)
- MDE grants management systems (e.g., MEGS)
- MDE data reporting systems (e.g., Minnesota Report Card, Data Reports and Analytics)
- MDE school finance systems (e.g., MSFS, IDEAS, Levy, SEDRA)
- MDE nutrition services systems (e.g., CLiCS)
- MDE single sign-on system (e.g., EDIAM Security)

The Minnesota Department of Education prepares reports for the Legislature, as required by statute, to inform lawmakers and the public about department programs, detail research studies conducted by the department on education issues, or use as an accountability tool for programs for which the commissioner has oversight.
In most cases, reports are due to the Legislature in the fiscal year following the activity; for instance, a report completed in fiscal year 2025 includes data from the 2023-24 school year. Contact information is included in each report.

Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing - 7/17/24 Summary of data, efforts, needs and results of work from education-based agencies, departments and individuals who serve students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in Minnesota.

Children Experiencing Homelessness Served by Part C - 7/15/24 The report highlights data for children experiencing homelessness ages birth through age two for the 2022-23 school year. The report also provides background and next steps to address the issue of accurately identifying and serving infants and toddlers with disabilities and their families who are experiencing homelessness.

The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) has developed a collection of resources to support schools as they navigate the opportunities and challenges associated with generative artificial intelligence (AI). A cross-divisional team at MDE has compiled these materials to provide educators with essential information and guidance on AI in education.
The main AI page contains general information about generative AI, while the AI in Education page offers guiding principles, highlights opportunities and challenges, and provides resources and considerations for schools looking to create AI guidance and policies.
We invite you to explore these resources to better understand and implement AI in your educational practices.
MDE staff will be presenting a session on Artificial Intelligence at the Back to School Conference on Aug. 6.
The teacher development and evaluation (TDE) statute has changed, impacting all Minnesota school districts and charter schools. The updated statute requires instructional frameworks to embed culturally responsive methodologies by school year 2025–26. If your oversight team is wondering where to begin, this session will offer a block of time to begin planning on how to shift your district’s current instructional observation process to incorporate culturally responsive methodologies. This session is intended to begin the process that your team can take back to your learning community and complete.
Teams will:
Intended Audience: Teacher development and evaluation (TDE) and Q Comp oversight teams including but not limited to superintendents, principals, peer observers and teachers.
Note: The entire team is not required to attend, a smaller group may attend and then share with the entire team at a later date.

Workshop Location Options: Register for the virtual Changing to Culturally Responsive Observation Framework session on August 13, 9:30- 11 a.m.
Instructions for virtual session:
- Select one person from the team to register. Breakout sessions will be assigned by teams assembling in one space.
- Gather as a team in a common workspace on the day of workshop (i.e., board room, meeting room, classroom with projector/sound).
- Focus of this workshop is for teams to plan together and this will be more effective if teams are present together in a common space.
- Log-on as a team.
- If the team is unable to gather together to participate in the virtual session, please contact us to discuss the best way to allow the team to participate two weeks prior to the workshop date.
Register for the Changing to Culturally Responsive Observation Framework Mankato session on August 14, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Each individual planning to attend should register independently to ensure enough materials are available for the session.

Support yourself or your staff by attending a restorative training in August. Register now for the August Restorative Trainings: Circle and Chats. Circle trainings will be offered in-person August 5-8 in Virginia and August 12-15 at the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE). Restorative Chats will be offered August 12-15 at MDE. One participant who attended the June RP trainings wrote: “This has been the most important professional development I have ever been a part of. I'm a better human and will be a better teacher as a direct result from this experience.”

All educators from K-12 and higher education are invited to the 2024 Minnesota Summit on Learning and Technology, an offering of the Minnesota Learning Commons (MnLC), on Thursday, August 8, at St. Cloud State University. Registration is $50 and includes access to all Summit activities, food, and refreshments. If you cannot join in person, there is a virtual option available.
Breakout sessions will include generative AI in both K-12 and higher education, quality instructional practices, innovative practices, digital equity and more. The full program will be available in early June.
