Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a powerful tool that uses computer programs to allow machines to learn and perform specific tasks. AI learns from data and experience, just like people do. AI is everywhere, and it is rapidly changing how we learn, work, and live. AI is reshaping education and work. In schools, it is being used to personalize learning experiences for students, making education more effective and engaging. In the workforce, AI is transforming different careers.
MDE has been developing guidance and resources related to AI for several months. A timeline for completion and release of this information will hopefully have information available for the public by the time of the Fall 2024 MBITE Conference, where MDE will lead a session on Artificial Intelligence.
To better inform the development of the MDE guidance, we would love to hear from classroom teachers and administrators related to your questions and needs surrounding AI. These could include:
- What resources should we use…and which should we avoid?
- How should we develop district—or classroom—policies about AI use?
- How can AI make my work as a teacher more efficient and effective?
Please consider sharing with MDE Business Specialist Dean Breuer current AI resources you are using, current policies and practices you have developed, and/or what questions you have that you hope MDE guidance on AI will address. We hope that the answers to many of your questions will be provided at the October 4 MBITE Conference!
