Medicaid in Education: Third-Party Reimbursement Statewide Spring Forum
The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) and Department of Human Services (DHS) will hold this year's Medicaid in Education: Third-Party Reimbursement Spring Forum April 15-16, 2024. These forums support Minnesota schools in accessing Medicaid funds for building capacity in providing health-related services so that all students benefit from their education. Third-Party Billing coordinators, special education directors, coordinators, related service providers and support staff are encouraged to attend. Grand Casino Hinckley will host the 2024 forum.
Forum participants will have an increased knowledge of Medicaid in education, state and federal updates, documentation requirements, rates and audit information. Additionally, school and community providers will explore documentation and reimbursement strategies for nursing and mental health.
Registration
In person and virtual participants must register for this event on the Alchemer website. Registrations for in-person participants will close March 25. Virtual participants can register anytime and will receive a meeting link to the forum closer to the event date. Medicaid in Education: Third-Party Reimbursement 101 video will be made available for viewing before the forum.

Strengthening Community by Lifting the Voices of Indigenous Special Education Staff Webinar Series
MDE and the Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College encourage Native special education staff and all others interested to attend a webinar series intended to strengthen community by lifting the voices of Indigenous special education staff using State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG) funding.
The fifth webinar in the series will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2024.

Child Tax Credit
Minnesotans can now claim the Child Tax Credit, with no limit on the number of children claimed. You must file a 2023 individual income tax return in order to claim the credit. Most taxpayers who are eligible to claim the new Child Tax Credit are also eligible for free tax preparation assistance. Learn more about income requirements and qualifications on the Child Tax Credit webpage.
The tax credit of up to $1,750 per child is estimated to cut child poverty by up to one third in Minnesota. Nearly 300,000 households including 513,000 children are estimated to qualify for the credit.
Save Receipts for School Supplies
The Minnesota Department of Revenue offers two valuable tax benefits for parents who purchase school supplies for their K-12 students: the K-12 Education Credit and Subtraction. These benefits can reduce parents’ taxes to increase their refund, but is only available for those who keep their receipts. Purchases for most school supplies, field trips, and musical instruments for school band are eligible.
Most Minnesota parents qualify for the K-12 subtraction, which reduces their taxable income. Parents under certain income limits may also qualify for the K-12 credit, which can refund up to 75% of their costs – even for parents who do not owe any taxes. Visit Revenue's website for details.
