Library Construction Grant Opportunity
In accordance with Minnesota Statutes 2023, section 134.45, the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) makes funding available to public library jurisdictions for renovation, construction and improvement projects that result in more accessible library facilities. Project funds may be used to remove architectural barriers from a library building or site, remediate conditions hazardous to health or safety, renovate or expand an existing building for use as a library, or construct a new library.
Total amount available: $4,000,000
Maximum grant amounts: $1,000,000 for improvement grants or $450,000 for accessibility grants
Important Dates for Library Construction Grant Opportunity:
– First question and answer period closes: March 29, 2024 – First question and answer document published: April 5, 2024
– Second question and answer period closes: April 30, 2024 – Second question and answer document published: May 7, 2024
– Completed applications due: May 17, 2024, by 5 p.m. Central Time
– Anticipated date of grantee announcement: June 2024
– Anticipated date for the beginning of the grant: July 1, 2024

This webinar discusses the value of play-based instruction as it relates to oral language, literacy skills, and joyful learning in preschool through the early elementary grades. It is intended for special and general education practitioners, administrators, elementary school principals and curriculum specialists.

Legislative Reference Library Opening
The Minnesota Legislative Reference Library is looking for a person to work half-time as a library aide. The position is for 20 hours per week with some Saturday hours. The annual salary is $20,366 ($19.51 per hour). This position includes prorated vacation, sick leave, retirement, and insurance benefits.

Qualifications: Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Excel, and computer/network file structures desired. Candidates should have good social skills and be able to interact with a wide range of patrons. Attention to detail is very important.

MNLINK Transition
On Tuesday, April 30, MNLINK will change. Are your patrons ready? They will still be able to request items from libraries across the state, but regular users will notice that the website is different as MNLINK moves to a new software platform. Minitex is providing training for all MNLINK public libraries in April; check with your system's ILL coordinator to make sure your staff is prepared.
