E1MN Youth Professional Updates

Minnesota Transition Framework Tool of the Month

Developed by E1MN and transition leaders statewide, Minnesota’s new transition framework defines high-quality transition programming for youth with disabilities and those who support them.

Transition/Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) Inventory

The Transition/Pre-ETS Inventory (PDF) is a tool that the youth, family, and other support team members can complete. It allows for the identification and prioritization of the youth’s strengths and needs and which learning stage or stages they are at within each of the transition/Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) topics. (Learn more about transition services and Pre-ETS on the Disability Hub MN website.)

Each topic in the inventory is hyperlinked to that same topic in the Support youth section of the Youth in Transition Toolkit where professionals can learn more information about the topic and get ideas for activities to do with the youth related to that topic.

November Issue of SSB's The Spectacle

The Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) – State Services for the Blind (SSB) is happy to announce that their November 2023 issue of The Spectacle is available.

The Spectacle is a newsletter that provides helpful information for blind, DeafBlind, and low vision teens and those who support them.

Charting the LifeCourse Learning Sessions

Charting the LifeCourse (CtLC) was developed by parents/guardians as a way to support the people they love to live a good life. CtLC has tools that can help youth and families plan, communicate, and problem-solve about things that are important to them. Through a Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) grant, the University of Minnesota Institute on Community Integration (ICI) is offering a variety of free virtual sessions.

Resources for Military-Connected Children with Disabilities

The families of military-connected children with disabilities may have the added challenges of frequent separation from family and support networks and disruptions in the continuity of early intervention services and special education and related services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) because of frequent transitions.

letter from the Office of Special Education Programs Director Valerie C. Williams addressed to state directors of special education and state IDEA Part C coordinators emphasized the need to help support military-connected children with disabilities and their families through the numerous educational and life transitions they may face.

Resources on the U.S. Department of Education website can help to support states, parents/guardians, families, and others to meet the unique needs of military-connected children with disabilities and ensure the timely provision of required early intervention and special education and related services.

What is the E1MN Newsletter?

E1MN is Minnesota's state agency partnership to advance Employment First outcomes for youth and adults with disabilities. The state agency partnership evolved from Minnesota's Employment First policy adopted by the Olmstead sub-cabinet in 2014.

The E1MN Newsletter is a way to communicate important information to professionals (school, Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS)/SSB, county, provider staff) that support youth and adults with disabilities.
