Apply for Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) Criteria Committee

The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) is extending opportunities for interested individuals to be members at large on the committee to amend Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) criteria for eligibility in special education and topic specific workgroups. MDE wants to make sure the committee represents all voices in this work and impacted by changes to the eligibility criteria.

MDE is taking applications until October 30, 2023. Individuals selected will be notified November 1, 2023.  

Please note that there are more ways to engage in this work. If you find that this isn’t the work for you, please consider the following options:

  • Send questions and concerns to the SLD Criteria mailbox, SLD-eligibility@state.mn.us.
  • Share your thoughts on decisions the committee will have to make (part two of the SLD committee application).
  • Join SLD office hours—dates and times to be posted on SLD webpage and in the Special Education Updates.
  • Receive progress updates through Special Education Updates.
  • Submit comments during the rule-making process—Process and timelines to be determined.
  • Elect to work on developing guidance and training in the revised rule—process to be determined for 2024-25 school year.
