Indigenous Education for All: Survey Open
The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) Office of American Indian Education and Academic Standards, Instruction, and Assessment Division has developed a needs assessment survey to determine the resources necessary to implement Indigenous Education For All (IEFA). Please complete the survey on the SurveyMonkey website yourself and share it as widely as possible within your school or district in order to identify district, school, educator, family and community needs regarding IEFA. Your participation in this short survey will guide MDE with the implementation of this important legislation. The survey will close on September 22, 2023.

Alternate Assessment Coffee Break Series: Meet with Alternate Assessment Specialists to Give Feedback and Ask Questions
The Academic Standards, Instruction and Assessment Division will host a series of virtual coffee break sessions for Minnesota Test of Academic Skills (MTAS) test administrators and special education staff to ask any questions around alternate assessment, share feedback and connect with other special education staff from across the state. Bring your favorite beverage, along with your questions and any feedback you have, to share at this informal time focused around alternate assessment.
Join us for the first one of the year on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from 4 to 5 p.m., via Zoom: 2023-24 Alternate Assessment Coffee Break Series. Register for the coffee break on the ZoomGov website. This month we will be discussing the MTAS eligibility guidelines for choosing assessments for students and planning for assessment during individualized education program (IEP) meetings.
We will be meeting the second Tuesday of each month during the school year. You need to register only once to join any of the monthly coffee breaks that work for you. The coffee break dates for this year are October 10, November 14 and December 12, 2023; and January 9, February 13, March 12, April 9 and May 14, 2024, at 4 p.m. For more information, contact Alt.Assessment.MDE@state.mn.us.
