Free School Meals Bill – Bulletin for July 14, 2023

The Minnesota Free School Meals (MN-FSM) Program Began July 1, 2023.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) were updated this week on the MN-FSM webpage.

Important updates this week include the following:

• Federal reimbursement rates were published on July 7, 2023, for school year 2023-24 (SY 2023-24). Reimbursement rates are posted on the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) website and will be updated soon to include the SY 2023-24 information.
• The FAQ includes revisions to previous questions clarifying Prekindergarten and Childcare Programs eligible to participate in the MN-FSM.
• Meal charge policies are still required under Minnesota Statutes 2023, 124D.111. The policy does not need to be sent home but must be posted on the school or district’s website.

MN-FSM Applications Reminders for renewing and new sponsors:

• The Application Renewal Instructions for School Nutrition Programs and Application Renewal Instructions for Milk Programs are updated on the MDE Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) website and will be posted to the MN-FSM webpage.
• New applicants of the School Nutrition Program can view instructions on the application process.

Sponsors can also use the FNS Customer Service Form to submit questions. Include your Cyber-Linked Interactive Child Nutrition System (CLiCS) sponsor identification (ID) number in all correspondence.
