A set of tasks that some Business teachers will need to plan for this summer or fall are related to Program Approval. Teachers whose school districts have approvals due for five-year renewal have received training this spring from Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) specialists. Recordings of those trainings are available below:
Those Program Approval renewals (when completed and signed by Superintendents) can be submitted between June 1 and November 1. Remember to include the Program Approval application form spreadsheet, AND a syllabus for each course submitted.
For programs that will undergo changes in the fall—including course changes and/or teacher changes—a Program Approval Amendment form is available on the MDE Program Approval webpage for submitting these changes. New or revised course syllabi must be submitted for any courses added or changed on this Amendment form.
Contact Business and Marketing Specialist Dean Breuer with any questions related to Program Approval requirements and application submissions.
A team of teachers with experience delivering middle school courses in trades and industry, business, and technology will be engaging in a project with Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) over the next several months to begin development of frameworks to provide guidance for middle school career and technical education (CTE) courses in those career fields.
The team will reference middle school standards developed by other states as well as the high school Frameworks currently in place in Minnesota. Among the intended outcomes are providing guidance on greater rigor and alignment of middle school programs to high school programs, and improved career pathway preparation for middle school students prior to entering high school. Stay tuned for more information as this work progresses over the next year!
The Minnesota Society of CPAs (MNCPA) Scholars program is a mentorship and career awareness program that exposes minority high school students to the CPA profession. During this year-long program, MNCPA Scholars receive up-close, real-world insight into the profession through mentorship and events while learning valuable professional skills. This program is open to minority high school juniors and seniors at no personal cost. It is based in the Twin Cities Metro area with most events being held at the MNCPA office in Bloomington. Students will receive a $1,000 academic gift, business attire for events, college letter of recommendation, professional skills development and more upon successful completion of the program. Learn more about the Minnesota Society of CPAs Scholar Program.
This program is a great opportunity for students to explore a career path that they might not have considered. (NOTE: Accounting and Auditing careers remain among those with highest pay opportunities and in highest demand in most regions around the state!) The MNCPA is interested in connecting with Business educators to help spread the word about this scholar program opportunity by connecting with students at job fairs or in classrooms. Contact Amy Johnston for more information or to set up a meeting.
