Time is Flying!

Sandhill Cranes

These first few months have quickly come and gone. The air is blowing colder, the leaves are turning, and the fall is giving way to winter.

There are more new faces in many new places. I know the community will continue to come together to offer support and advice. We have a great reserve of knowledge and experience out there that can help guide these new teachers as they get their feet under them.

Thanks to all of those who took part in the fall survey. I have provided a link to the results below. I will be using that information to inform the professional development activities planned for this year and next summer. If you have any information to add, let me know.

In this newsletter, I have information about funding options and a reminder about license renewal. There are also reminders about professional development opportunities, grant/scholarship opportunities, and ongoing resources. I will keep sending out information, but feel free to connect if you have anything you want to share about these topics or something else that keeps you up at nights!

Take care and have a great holiday season!!

Annual Trade & Industry Teacher Survey

Every year, we conduct a survey to help to gauge the state of secondary Trade and Industry education programs and identify future professional development/learning opportunities in Minnesota. Only 53 teachers responded this year. Conceivably any the results might be somewhat skewed. However, I still appreciate hearing from folks and will use those results to help the T&I community develop more professional development experiences.

Highlights include an increase in teachers involved with the Manufacturing Program Area with an increased need for manufacturing professional development. There was also a call for more development in industry engagement and student leadership/career exploration/experiential learning. One aspect that remains the same as last year was the biggest successes being in obtaining new equipment, but a similar biggest challenge in obtaining new equipment!

You can find the total results of that survey at Trade & Industry Survey Results site

Intro to Frameworks

Minnesota Safety Guidance Resource and Trade & Industry Frameworks

Both of these long-awaited resources are or will soon be posted on the Minnesota Department Of Education (MDE) website. With the Frameworks, there are also some additional documents that have been put together to assist teachers in embedding various frameworks elements into their curriculum.

The main Safety Guidance document is posted on the Minnesota Department Of Education (MDE) website. The Minnesota Schools Safety Resource: Instructor Materials and the Minnesota Schools Safety Resource: Student Materials are available to all Minnesota Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers on request. To request the complete resource, please contact the CTE team at mde.cte@state.mn.us

Don’t Forget License Renewal!

In reviewing every Trade & Industry program for the CTE Levy, I noted that a number of teachers and districts still do not have a current license or Out of Field Permission (OFP) for the 2022-23 school year. Is your CTE license or OFP up for renewal for this new school year?

Get the information you need from the license agency. Check at the PELSB License Lookup. If the information isn’t there, check with PELSB!
