Math Standards First Draft Public Comment Open Through February 28

 In accordance with Minnesota Statutes, Minnesota’s academic standards are reviewed and revised on a 10-year cycle. During 2021-22, the department is in the process of facilitating a review of the Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards in Mathematics. The public review and comment period for version one of Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards in Mathematics began February 7 and goes through February 28, 2022. The public is invited to review version one of the Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards in Mathematics and provide feedback through the version one online survey.

Reminder: Special Education Statewide Average Expenditures Fiscal Year 2021

Please read the January 10, 2022, memo titled Special Education Statewide Average Expenditures Fiscal Year 2021. This memo explains calculations for fiscal year 2021 statewide average special education expenditures, per December 1 child count, by primary disability area.

Reminder: Expand Summer Learning FIN Code 163 Grant Opportunity

The application for Expand Summer Learning using funds for FIN code 163 is now available on the SERVS website. Districts and charters may apply for expenses incurred in running an in-person, teacher led summer program for the summer of 2022, which includes June (FY 22) and July and August (FY 23). This funding is for students entering first through twelfth grade in the fall of 2022. Completed application deadline for submissions is March 15, 2022.

Virtual meetings are scheduled for your information regarding the application, allowable expenses and reporting requirements for using federal FIN 163 funds. Please visit the calendar page at MDE for registration information.

Reminder: Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education Grant Opportunity

Documentation for the Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education (IELCE) grant opportunity, including the instructions, cover sheet and assurances, application narrative, and budget form is available on the Minnesota Department of Education Competitive Grant Opportunities website. Completed IELCE application deadline for submissions is March 8, 2022.

The Minnesota Department of Education makes this grant program available for the purpose of providing  funding that is designed to assist adult immigrants and other individuals who are English language learners in: (1) Improving their reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension skills in English; and mathematics skills and (2) Acquire an understanding of the American system of government, individual freedom, and the responsibilities of citizenship, including instruction on the rights and responsibilities of citizenship and civic participation.
