Quarter 2 Seclusion Reporting Reminder
Quarter 2 seclusion reporting is now past due. If you have not already done so, please log into Stepwell to report whether and/or how many seclusions occurred at your district during quarter two of the 2021-22 school year, covering October 1 to December 31, 2021. Remember, all school districts and charter schools must complete quarterly seclusion reporting, even those that do not use seclusions or do not have a seclusion room. If you have questions, please email Carolyn Ellstra.
Note: Only quarter 2 seclusion tasks need to be completed at this time, even if you have a task for quarter 3 seclusion reporting within Stepwell. Quarter 3 reporting must be completed between April 1 and April 15, 2022. If you complete quarter 3 reporting prior to this time, you may need to re-enter your data after April 1.
COMPASS Updates
Introducing MDE's Repository for Evidence-Based Practices
The first version of the Minnesota Department of Education's (MDE) Repository of Evidence-Based Practices is now available on the COMPASS webpage. These resources can be used by school leaders, administrators and educators as they work through their continuous improvement process and/or the Minnesota Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MnMTSS) framework.
Minnesota Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MnMTSS) Grants Available for Fiscal Years 2022 and 2023
The Minnesota Department of Education is currently accepting applications for an MnMTSS grant opportunity. This funding is being made available to Minnesota local educational agencies (LEAs) (i.e., school district and charter schools), to build the capacity of LEAs to support implementation of the MnMTSS framework in order to improve academic, behavioral and social emotional outcomes for all students. Additional information on the MnMTSS grants is available on MDE’s Competitive Grant Opportunities web page. The deadline to apply is February 9, 2022, at 3:30 p.m.
COMPASS Pathways
In December, we also announced COMPASS Pathways for six learning topics, including:
As a reminder, COMPASS Pathways will offer a variety of resources, evidence-based practices and facilitated guidance in formats that work best for schools. Types of pathways will vary by the topic but may include on-demand learning, cohort learning groups or a hybrid of on-demand resources and cohort learning groups. Additional pathways will be announced in 2022 on literacy and math.
Additional learning and grant opportunities related to each section of COMPASS will be added to the COMPASS webpage as they become available.
If you would like others in your district or school to receive these emails, please encourage them to sign up for email updates from the COMPASS leadership team using this form.
2022 Minnesota Student Survey (MSS)
The 2022 Minnesota Student Survey (MSS) opened on Tuesday, January 18, and will remain open until Friday, June 10. District Assessment Coordinators (or other identified staff) received an email on December 1, 2021, with registration information. While schools can register at any point, we encourage early registration so schools have the most time to prepare. If you need additional help with registration, please contact mss@wilder.org.
As part of the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA), all LEAs must provide parents or guardians with notification of their plans to administer the MSS. Read about action items related to PPRA. You may download and share an MSS Infographic to communicate with staff or families, if desired.
In order to receive updates on the MSS, please subscribe to the MSS bulletin. You may email mde.studentsurvey@state.mn.us with any questions.
