Next Data Deadline
The next P-EBT portal data submission deadline is Wednesday, June 30, at 4 p.m. Confirm that all students who should have received benefits have been transferred to the Department of Human Services (DHS) using the Summary and Export of Students reports that are available in the P-EBT portal. This disbursement will include:
- catch up payments for previous months in School Year 2020-21
- payments for May and June (partial) 2021
- summer phase 1 benefits as described below
Summer P-EBT
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved Minnesota’s summer P-EBT plan! Summer benefits will be distributed in one payment of $430 in two separate phases.
Phase 1: All students enrolled in National School Lunch Program (NSLP) eligible schools in the last month of school who are also eligible for free or reduced-price meals will receive summer benefits in the July disbursement. Ensure these students are uploaded into the P-EBT portal by June 30, 2021. Households can apply for free or reduced-price meals up to June 30 (or whenever is most feasible for your school to approve and upload the students into the P-EBT portal by June 30).
Phase 2: Newly eligible students after July 1. The 2021-22 Application for Educational Benefits will be used for summer benefits for students who are newly eligible for summer P-EBT benefits after July 1. Newly eligible students may include kindergarten students and transfer students. The Minnesota P-EBT team is working through technology upgrades for phase 2 benefits and will communicate when these benefits will be distributed at a later date. In the meantime, do not upload new students for school year 2021-2022 into the P-EBT portal.
Ensure that you date stamp 2021-22 Applications for Educational Benefits received after July 1, 2021 with the date the application was received from the household in order to distinguish any newly eligible students. Applications must be received at the school by September 3, 2021, in order for newly eligible students to be considered for summer 2021 P-EBT.
The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) School Nutrition Programs currently has the 2021-22 Application for Educational Benefits posted to the website. There are three versions depending on what program your school is operating this coming school year.

Communicating Summer Deadline to Households
After July 1, ensure that you communicate with affected households that the summer deadline to apply for free or reduced-price meal status for newly eligible students for summer P-EBT benefits is September 3, 2021. School Year 2021-22 Applications for Educational Benefits must be received and date stamped by September 3, 2021, for newly eligible students after July 1. You may wish to target this message to new kindergarten and transfer students that did not already receive phase 1 Summer P-EBT benefits to avoid confusion with students that already received summer benefits.
Minnesota does not currently have guidance from USDA as to whether P-EBT benefits will continue into the 2021-22 school year. We will communicate any information as we receive it from USDA.

Student Validation Errors
Please check the Student Data Error Report tab at the top of the P-EBT portal to view student records with ID errors and make the necessary corrections. In the Data Transfer Error Message column, error codes 1001 and 3000-3006 are student data validation errors, which means the data entered into the P-EBT portal does not match what is entered into the Minnesota Automated Reporting Student System (MARSS).
Make sure the first name, last name, middle name (if applicable), date of birth and gender as well as the ID number match exactly what is in MARSS. If the student’s name, date of birth or gender were entered incorrectly in the P-EBT portal, make those edits in the student’s record.
If the student ID number was entered incorrectly in the P-EBT portal, the student record must be deleted. Delete the student record by clicking the Next button in the Delete Student from P-EBT box on the right side of the screen and create a new record with the correct ID.
