Department of Defense (DoD Fresh) Program
As previously communicated, MDE worked with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to resolve DoD Fresh Produce vendor issues. As a result, AJ Wholesale Produce, Sheboygan, Wisconsin will be providing the DoD Fresh deliveries for the remainder of the year.
The catalog is active in the Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Order Receipt System (FFAVORS). While it was stated deliveries will begin the week of April 19, AJ Produce has already received sponsor orders and will fulfill those deliveries this week. AJ Produce are diligently working to align their delivery schedule with what Minnesota currently has in place. Therefore, at this time, your delivery day and time will not change. If schedule adjustments must be done, AJ Produce will inform the impacted sponsors accordingly per delivery zone.
H. Brooks and Company is no longer the DoD Fresh vendor. Any questions regarding your DoD orders, the catalog or deliveries should now be directed to our AJ Produce representatives:
This information will also be posted on the MDE website under the Department of Defense Fresh Produce section. Continue to place your orders as normal but please allow the AJ Produce team to acclimate and integrate the systems.
Due to the circumstances surrounding the program, MDE will not recover DoD funds as usual this spring for reallocation. Still, orders must be placed and received through June 30. There is no carryover of DoD funds to the next program year. As best you can – spend the full amount. Your SY 2021-22 funds are available to you beginning July 1.

Coming in May! Farm to School and Early Care Education Technical Assistance (TA) Office Hours
Join members from the Minnesota Farm to School Leadership Team and other farm to school and early care education (ECE) stakeholders each month to discuss and solve your questions related to local foods and making farm to school and ECE a success in your community.
Anyone with questions related to farm to school and farm to ECE. All are welcome – farmers, school nutrition professionals, early care education operators, parents, teachers, distributors, gardeners, local public health professionals, extension educators, and any other farm to school and ECE advocates.
Office hours will be held the first Wednesday of the month from 9 to 10 a.m. with the exception of July when we will meet on July 14. Submit questions to Minnesota Farm to School TA Office Hours.
Register for the Farm to School TA Office Hours via Zoom. Register once and you will be invited monthly.
