New USDA Questions and Answers Memo Released  

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) released a question and answer memo regarding child nutrition program operations during the 2020-21 school year. This memo includes clarification on providing both congregate and non-congregate meals simultaneously, afterschool program enrichment activity availability, school verification deadline extension, direct certification requirements, and more. Please review Questions and Answers Relating to the Nationwide Waiver to Allow SFSP and SSO Operations through School Year 2020-21 – Q&As #3. Watch for additional guidance on how this information will be implemented in Minnesota.

Healthy Kids Summit: Food Choices for Our Future 

The Culinary Institute of America’s Healthy Kids Collaborative will host the Healthy Kids Summit: Food Choices for Our Future, a virtual K-12 culinary leadership summit, 1-3:30 p.m., on December 8 and 10, 2020. The two-day summit training is being offered free of charge to school food professionals. The summit will include: 

  • Demonstrations and discussions around transforming school food and advancing school food justice 
  • Networking with other school food leaders from across the country 
  • Case studies in change to give you a roadmap for the future 

Attendance at this virtual summit is limited and available spots will fill up fast.  Register for the Healthy Kids Summit. 

 

Apply for an AGRI Farm to School Grant 

Two tiers of Agricultural Growth, Research, and Innovation (AGRI) Farm to School grants are available through the Minnesota Department of Agriculture: AGRI First Bite Mini Grants and AGRI Full Tray Grants. The grant funding supports public or private school districts that participate in the National School Lunch Program and serve food to K-12 students. School districts serving sovereign nations are encouraged to apply. Both applications are due by 4 p.m. on December 18, 2020.
