Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) claims for this fall cannot be submitted until Cyber-Linked Interactive Child Nutrition System (CLiCS) sponsor and site applications have been approved by the state. Our staff are in the process of approving thousands of applications at this time. We appreciate your patience as we work diligently to complete this process. Watch for the status of your sponsor and site applications to change from “Submitted for Approval” to “Approved.” Once the applications are approved, claims may be submitted. The deadline for submitting September claims is November 29, 2020.

New Training Materials for CACFP Civil Rights

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) requires that organizations participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) provide civil rights training to their staff. New staff to your organization must receive civil rights training prior to starting CACFP responsibilities. Annual civil rights training must also be provided at least annually, within each program year (October through September), to all center staff and staff supporting and providing care in family child care homes. Use these training resources for CACFP civil rights staff training:

October 12–16: National School Lunch Week

National School Lunch Week, celebrated this year October 12-16, is right around the corner! Here are some fun activities provided by the national School Nutrition Association (SNA) that you can use to engage students and inform parents. Participating in National School Lunch Week (NSLW) helps you:

  • Increase student participation – Use our activity and coloring sheets for elementary and middle school age kids, and turn to the toolkit for ideas for all ages.
  • Spread the message to parents that you’re continuing to serve safe, healthy, delicious lunch at school – Use the NSLW infographic in English or Spanish.
  • Earn media coverage from local papers, TV stations and internet bloggers.
  • Connect with teachers, parents and administrators at your school or in your district to reiterate the importance of safe and nutritious school meals.

Find last minute engagement ideas in the NSLW 2020 Toolkit, gear up in the SNA NSLW Shop (download the brochure for NSLW items and pricing info) and start spreading the word on social media!

Opportunities from Our Partners

Nominate Your Community Food Champions

Help the National Farm to School Network recognize the invaluable contributions made by community members towards supporting and feeding children and families in our communities. These community members go by many names – farmer, cafeteria worker, neighbor, teacher, gardener, volunteer, and more – but they’ve all risen to the call for collaboration, partnership and creativity to feed our nation’s kids and support equity and access in the food system. Who are your community food champions? Nominate them to receive a $500 honorarium and be named a National Farm to School Network Community Food Champion! The nomination form should take less than 10 minutes to complete. Learn more about the 2020 Community Food Champion Award and nominate a food champion.
