Updates in this email:
The Minnesota Department of Health has developed Guidance for Delivering Direct Student Support Services. This guidance provides direction to school staff on the type of protective equipment that will be needed to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission when delivering direct student support services that require close, prolonged contact. This guidance applies to services delivered in kindergarten through 12th grade special and general education, prekindergarten programs including birth to three-part C under IDEA, and school based child care programs. This guidance applies when planning for all scenarios for the upcoming school year.
MDE has developed guidance for Transportation of Nonpublic and Charter School Students. This document outlines requirements for public school districts who provide transportation for students attending charter schools and nonpublic schools. The document can be found on the COVID-19 Updates page of the MDE website.
Please share these opportunities with your staff as appropriate.
Teaching and Learning Led by Evidence
As we all head into a school year that will look different than any previous year we have experienced, this webinar series is for teachers and school leaders to sharpen their skills and fluency around using evidence of student learning to support student-centered instruction.
These webinars are designed for teachers, principals, instructional leaders, curriculum directors, and any school leader who would like support in turning student learning data into action that drives instructional decisions. Each session will engage participants in making sense of their data so that it can be used to build trust and collaboration. Each session also emphasizes building fluency in using assessment and data as a set of tools to increase awareness of what students know and can do, and to close gaps in instruction and learning, especially during this unprecedented time in education.
Participants will gain:
- A vision for assessment systems and data use cycles that put students and equity at the center.
- A framework to facilitate purposeful conversations around data use with staff.
- A process for improving teacher-designed assessments that elicit relevant information about what students know and can do.
Topics and Registration:
Participants are encouraged to register for all webinars in the series, but may choose to attend any individual session. Teachers will earn one CEU per webinar.

Webinars—Setting Q Comp Site Goals
Audience: Coordinators or site leadership team members responsible for implementing Q Comp
Based on the “Guidance for Minnesota Public Schools: 2021 School Year Planning” document, sites will need to submit Q Comp site goal(s) for 2020-21. To assist with this process, the Minnesota Department of Education has planned two WebEx sessions around goal setting. These sessions are a repeat of the sessions conducted in July. Each session will be similar in content, so participants only need to attend one of the following WebEx sessions:
Register for the August 25, 10-11 a.m. webinar here
Register for the August 27, 2-3 p.m. webinar here
Please contact Michael Foster two weeks before the event to request a reasonable accommodation.

We recognize the pandemic is putting extra burden on school Transportation Staff and Administrators to make plans to safely get kids to/from school. We’re here to provide some resources to support walking and biking to school, a low viral transmission way to arrive to school ready to learn. We’ve created an Arrival and Dismissal during COVID-19 guide that may be helpful to share with partners in addition to our COVID-19 page on the MnSRTS Resource Center.
The National Safe Routes partnership has developed School Messaging Guide and a more comprehensive Back to School 2020: Recommendations for Safe Routes to School Programming guide for some additional resources.
Please reach out to Kelly.Corbin@state.mn.us with any questions or technical assistance needs.
