Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) Updates

The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) announced updates to the P-EBT program.

  • The deadline to apply for P-EBT benefits has been extended to July 31, 2020.
  • The P-EBT program was expanded to include children in prekindergarten (pre-K).
    • The pre-K student must have been enrolled in a district pre-K program that was receiving free/reduced-price school meals prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
    • Families must complete a new application for pre-K children if they did not list them on their initial application or did not receive benefits for these children with SNAP or MFIP. Note: Head Start participants do not qualify for P-EBT.
  • Minnesota extended P-EBT through the summer to provide an additional, one-time benefit of $100 per child. Summer P-EBT benefits will be issued in August.
    • Families with children ages 3-18 who were on SNAP or MFIP from March 18, 2020, through July 31, 2020, will automatically receive this benefit on their current EBT card.
    • Families who apply and qualify for the $325 per child P-EBT benefits will automatically receive this benefit on their P-EBT card.

Participants with questions should call the P-EBT Hotline at 651-431-4050 or 800-657-3698. Additional information is available on the DHS website. If you or your staff have questions, please email them to eaesd.snap.newsletter.dhs@state.mn.us. The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) is unable to answer any questions about P-EBT.
