NEW! Curriculum Leader Meetings: Arts Education

Leaders of arts curriculum and instruction at the district level (including general curriculum coordinators and arts coordinators) are invited to join the Arts Curriculum Leaders Network. “Arts” encompasses all five art areas for which there are standards: dance, media arts, music, theater, and visual arts.

This new group for district-level leaders will be a venue for sharing ideas, getting updates, and exploring issues related to arts education and standards implementation. Since Minnesota is transitioning to new arts standards by 2021-22, the first few meetings will focus on the arts standards and resources for supporting that transition in your district. Meetings will begin this fall at the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE).

Mon., October 28, 2019, 12:30-3:30 p.m., Conference Ctr. B, Room 16, MDE
Thurs., December 5, 2019, 9 a.m.-noon, Conference Ctr. B, Rooms 17 and 18, MDE
Wed., February 12, 2020, 9 a.m.-noon, Conference Ctr. B, Room 15, MDE

These meetings are targeted for district-level curriculum and instructional leaders. That can include teachers in some cases when they are in leadership roles for the district. If you are also looking for teacher professional learning opportunities, the Perpich Center for Arts Education offers workshops for teachers. For opportunities, visit the Perpich Center for Arts Education website calendar. The offerings are different for the various art areas.

RSVP by October 23 for the October 28 Arts Curriculum Meeting. Feel free to share this with others who lead arts curriculum and instruction at the district level. Contact Alina Campana, arts specialist, for assistance with questions or for more information.
