New Library Search & Compare Tool
The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) developed a new online public library data tool. Library Search & Compare allows anyone to discover how their public library rates with peers across the nation. Data from the Public Libraries Survey can be displayed in various ways including by state, locale, legal basis, branch and various performance measures such as public services, financials, staffing, and collection. Results can be filtered, downloaded and shared. The database includes multi-year PLS data on a number of key variables at the library system level. IMLS plans to update the tool with FY17 data this summer. Feel free to play around with Library Search & Compare from the IMLS Labs webpage.

Thursday, July 18, 2019 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. ISD 279 – Osseo Area Schools' Educational Service Center
What Is Connected Learning (CL)? Learn the core concepts of Connected Learning (relationships, interests and real-world application) and how this can look in libraries by looking at a practice model and thinking about adapting the concepts to your own setting.
Participants will:
- Understand the philosophy of Connected Learning as it relates to Educational and Career opportunities
- Explore the Six Principles of Connected Learning
- Think about how to operationalize Connected Learning theory into practice
- Learn about how a library has incorporated Connected Learning into a production-centered site

Ditch the fear by getting hands-on experience and a chance to discuss what computational thinking is and how it can be integrated into children’s and teen activities. Then discuss ways to combine that with Connected Learning for killer programs.
Workshop Outcomes Participants will be able to:
- Articulate how CL environments support youth learning of CT
- Understand how to get started designing CL-connected CT activities

2017 Public Libraries Survey Released
The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) released the latest data from its 2017 Public Libraries Survey (PLS). The PLS examines key indicators of public library use, financial health, staffing, and resources. You can explore the FY 2017 data, documentation and supplementary tables from the IMLS’s Public Libraries Survey webpage. IMLS also released a report on the 2016 data, which is available on the IMLS website.
Each year since 1988, the survey has provided a national census of America’s public libraries. The data are collected from approximately 9,000 public library systems comprised of over 17,000 individual main libraries, library branches, and bookmobiles in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories.
