Minnesota Attorney General Opinion on Denying Participation in Graduation Ceremonies for Unpaid Meal Debt

Last week, Commissioner Ricker received a letter from Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid asking the Commissioner to request a formal opinion from the Attorney General’s (AG’s) Office on whether the practice of limiting a student’s participation in graduation ceremonies or activities because of unpaid meal debt is illegal under current law. Yesterday, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison gave her the attached opinion stating that such practices are illegal under current law.

You can learn more about the opinion by reading the AG press release.
