Update on Lapse in FY2019 Appropriations and Impacts on Child Nutrition Programs

As we shared in the December 28, 2018 Bulletin message, federal funds for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) have lapsed due to the expiration of the prior continuing resolution. Currently, the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) has funding available through January to pay claims submitted by Child Nutrition Programs (CNPs) - including the National School Lunch Program, the School Breakfast Program, the Special Milk Program, the Child and Adult Care Food Program and the Summer Food Service Program. The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable program is not affected by the funding lapse.

We understand the uncertainty this causes but wanted to provide an update on our current funding situation. We are working with senior administration officials to determine any alternative solutions. We will continue to update you via this bulletin as we know more.

Please direct questions to Monica Herrera, Director of Nutrition, Health and Youth Development at MDE, at 651-582-8266 or at monica.herrera@state.mn.us
