ITEMS OF INTEREST
The Minnesota Departments of Education, Health, Human Services and Public Safety are contracting with Texas A&M University’s Public Policy Research Institute and Gibson Consulting to administer the Minnesota Student Survey (MSS) in 2019. Visit the Minnesota Department of Education Minnesota Student Survey website for more information on the 2019 MSS, including a sample parent notification letter in English. Letters in Spanish, Somali and Hmong will be available in December.
Important: Registration information will only be sent to superintendents and district assessment coordinators unless a different district contact person is specified. If you would like to designate another district-level MSS contact person, view the Minnesota Student Survey Contact Information. The registration email will be sent from jcarle@gibsonconsult.com. Please ensure that district contacts add this email to their list of acceptable addresses so it does not get caught in spam filters.
Reminder: It is your district’s responsibility to ensure compliance with the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA). This includes notifying parents/guardians of their right to opt their child out of the survey as well as making the applicable survey questions available for review. Schools may provide the following links to parents who request a copy of the survey.
2019 MSS Level One Questions (Grade 5) 2019 MSS Level Two Questions (Grade 8) 2019 MSS Level Three Questions (Grades 9 and 11, ALCs)
If you have questions about the upcoming survey administration, email mde.studentsurvey@state.mn.us or call 651-582-8587.

Thank you to the many schools and districts who submitted their My School narratives this week. We know that the process for entering the narratives has been confusing. View updated My School instructions.
Please note that the narratives will not appear on the Minnesota Report Card until mid-December. The messages you enter will be reviewed and then pulled into the report card system. Ongoing, we will pull the narrative data from the site verification system on the 15th of January, April, July and October of each year. You will be able to modify your text in the system at any time, but the content will only be updated on the report card quarterly.
View an example of where the My School message will appear on the report card.
If you have questions about the My School message, please contact us at mde.communications@state.mn.us.
