Turn to Center for Resources During  Bullying Prevention Month

As we begin National Bullying Prevention Month, it’s important to remember that bullying is not a problem that any one entity or person can solve alone. It takes everyone in a school community, working together to prevent bullying.

Whether you’re a bus driver, student, superintendent, school staff member, parent, friend, coach or community member, we can all do something to prevent and stop bullying.

I want to challenge everyone to identify actions you can take or programs your school can implement that will help create safe and supportive school environments for all students. Whether you’re a student making a commitment to intervening when witness bullying or a building principal who wants to bring school climate improvement practices to your school, we at the School Safety Technical Assistance Center are here to help you.

Resources on Trauma-Informed Practices for Schools

Many students in schools throughout the nation have experienced at least one traumatic event in their life. To help schools support the health and well-being of all students, including those impacted by trauma, the National Center on Safe and Support Learning Environments provides several resources. Review the Trauma-Sensitive Schools Training Package, which includes a variety of resources for educating school staff about trauma and trauma-sensitive practices, and a step-by-step process that school leaders can use for implementing a universal, trauma-informed approach.

What Do You Do if You or Someone Else is Being Bullied?

If someone is bullying you or others, tell an adult you trust such as a teacher, principal, coach or parent. It is better to let a trusted adult know, than to let the problem continue. Find more ways you can prevent or stop bullying by reading the Steps Students Can Take to Stop Bullying on the School Safety Technical Assistance Center website.
