Summer Food Service Program Reminders for June 28, 2018

Summer Food Service Program

Cyber Linked Interactive Child Nutrition System (CLiCS) Site Applications

CLiCS site applications are the source of information for the Summer Eats Minnesota app, the 2-1-1 Hotline, the National Hunger Hotline and the texting service 97779. As a sponsor make sure that your site(s) are approved and:

  • Verify that sites are serving meals within times approved on applications.
  • Update applications as necessary to ensure all information is correct.
  • Verify that meal service times on open site posters are also correct.

Complete a documented site review visit within the first four weeks of each site’s operation. Monitor sites frequently throughout the summer and re-train staff as needed.

Complete a racial/ethnic data form for each site.

Field Trips – Plan ahead and notify MDE by 8 am the morning of a field trip in order to claim meals taken off-site.

Maintain documentation to show that meal pattern requirements were met for all meals/snacks served at each site. This includes:

  • Dated Menus
  • Documentation of specific food items and portion sizes offered for each meal service
  • Records to show how food items credit toward the meal pattern (Child Nutrition labels, product formulation statements and recipes, as applicable)
  • Retain purchasing receipts and identify the SFSP food items

Sites that operated in May Submit the claim for reimbursement within 60 days of the close of the month. View instructions for submitting claims.

School Food Authorities – Submit Health Inspection Reimbursement Request for second health inspections. Reimbursement may be requested for sites that participate in SFSP and received a second inspection during the school year or during the summer.

2018-19 Income Eligibility Guidelines are now available. Summer sites that are eligible based on income and have not yet processed household income statements should use these guidelines beginning on July 1.

Share notification of kick-offs, spike and other events promoting summer meals with our office along with photos and articles about summer meals. We appreciate your efforts!
