UFARS/SERVS Budget Comparison Report Now Available

The FY 2011 UFARS/SERVS Budget Comparison Reports are now available on the MDE website at http://education.state.mn.us/MDE/Data/SERVS/SERVS_Finan/Reports/index.html ; select “SERVS Federal Financial Reports” and “UFARS/Budget Comparison.” The report is currently available only in an on-demand form; a full PDF copy loaded to Minnesota Funding Reports (MFR) will be available as soon as it is ready. Note: UFARS file submissions are processed at night; any UFARS data changes will appear on the UFARS/SERVS Budget Comparison report the next morning.

The report’s format has changed from last year because federal funds are no longer drawn on SERVS at the object code level.

The FY 2011 report has three sections:

  • The top section compares the SERVS budget by and object code to UFARS reported expenditures by object code and course code. Reports run for Title program Finance codes will display detail by AYP set-aside in this section.
  • The middle section compares SERVS total draws to the total budget.
  • The bottom section compares SERVS draws by course code to UFARS expenditures by course code.

Districts must revise SERVS budgets to match audited actual expenditures, as reported in UFARS. Once budgets have been revised to actual expenditures, all three sections of the report should display zero variances. Carefully review any variances to determine whether the district’s UFARS data or the SERVS budget or draws are incorrect.

If the UFARS expenditure data is incorrect, districts may make correcting entries and resubmit UFARS files through Wednesday, November 30, 2011, the statutory deadline for submitting audited financial data. Districts that have already completed an audit and submitted audited UFARS data should check with their auditor prior to making correcting entries and resubmitting.
