SUBJECT: Aaron Barnes Named Workforce and Low Incidence Disabilities Unit Supervisor

As you all know, Joan Breslin-Larson will be retiring from the Minnesota Department of Education on July 7 after a wonderful career, first as the Assistive Technology specialist and then as the supervisor of the Workforce and Low Incidence Disabilities Unit. Thanks to Joan for her leadership.

I am happy to announce that Aaron Barnes has accepted the position as supervisor of the Workforce and Low Incidence Disabilities Unit in the Division of Special Education starting on July 10. Aaron has been a valued member of the Special Education Division since 2014 where he has been the Emotional or Behavioral Disorders Specialist and a member of the Minnesota Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports team. Aaron has worked in Wisconsin, Oregon, Michigan and Minnesota, providing technical assistance and professional development to school teams in supporting the implementation of evidence-based practices and effective leadership through collaboration. He has also been a faculty member at universities in Wisconsin and Oregon.

Aaron has a B.A. in Psychology from Luther College in Iowa, an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Minnesota State University-Mankato and a Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of Oregon. I am thrilled that Aaron has accepted this new position and look forward to his thoughtful and positive leadership in moving the work of this unit and our division forward.
