ESSA update - regional meetings, resources, and more

ESSA Masthead

September 23, 2016

This bulletin is a periodic update on the Minnesota Department of Education's work toward creating a new ESSA state plan.

Regional meetings in October and November

Commissioner Cassellius and staff from the Minnesota Department of Education are hitting the road in October and November to hold regional discussions on the Every Student Succeeds Act. Stops will include Duluth, Bemidji, Marshall, Rochester, St. Cloud and Burnsville. For more information, visit the Stakeholder Meetings page of the MDE website, then register to attend a meeting.

Committee meetings underway

The Accountability Advisory and Technical Committees have each met several times and the School Improvement Committee and Educator Quality Committee will begin meeting very soon. There is still time to get involved! All committee meetings are open to the public. For more information, visit the ESSA Committees page of the MDE website.

New ESSA resources available

There are a wide variety of resources now available on the MDE website, including a Minnesota State Plan Timeline, ESSA Overview, ESSA Conversations starter and several fact sheets on topics such as early learning, English Learners, school improvement, educator quality, assessments and more. These can be great resources to not only learn about ESSA, but also to help facilitate conversations around ESSA in Minnesota. Visit the Outreach Materials page of the MDE website.
