COVID-19: The Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program (MAWQCP) has and will continue to maintain full operations and ensure delivery of technical and financial assistance to all new applicants and existing certified farms. Our staff and partners throughout the state are dedicated to providing service and support to Minnesota’s essential agricultural producers.
Should the current pandemic or any other circumstance create a conservation concern on your farming operation, please contact your local certifying agent to obtain available resources. All MAWQCP-certified farms are eligible to participate in the MAWQCP Financial Assistance Grant Program as well as receive priority in NRCS administered financial assistance programs.
#MyStewardshipStory: Franke Brothers Farm in Hayfield
Franke Brothers Farm has always been about family and innovation, evolving with new ideas from every generation to continually boost yields and remain profitable through changing times.
“Instead of waiting until we have to fight somebody to keep what we have, why don’t we be proactive now,” Tom explained about why his family got involved with the MAWQCP. “We’re concerned about the environment. We don’t just farm here, we live here. I don’t plan on moving, so we try to be smart with our practices and promote good water quality.”

Meet Minnesota's Water Quality Certified Producers: Alternative Roots in Madelia
Alternative Roots Farm was established in 2011. The owners wanted to actively engage in conservation on the land, alongside growing healthful, organic food for their community. Becoming a Minnesota Water Quality Certified Farm was a natural fit for their farm goals, so they were excited to sign up when the program came out.
Check out the MAWQCP story map to learn more about Alternative Roots and some of the other certified farms across Minnesota. If you would like to share your story on the map, email us at mda.mawqcp@state.mn.us
