The 3DGeomatics Committee (3DGeo) of the Minnesota Geospatial Advisory Council invites you to meet about the plan for new high density lidar data collection in Minnesota on October 21, 2019 in Duluth.

Why New Lidar?

New, higher-resolution and higher-quality lidar will dramatically improve our ability to analyze both human-made and natural landscapes in Minnesota.

Planning Underway

3DGeo and MnGeo are planning for statewide collection of high density lidar and a suite of derived products to be available for the State by the end of 2025. 3DGeo has created a draft Lidar Story Map and Minnesota State Lidar Plan (available soon) to provide a road map for achieving this goal.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is also working to create a consistent quality, high-resolution elevation dataset across the nation. The USGS 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) has a grant program to collaborate with local partners to help fund lidar data acquisitions.

How to Learn More and Support the Plan

3DGeo is actively seeking stakeholders and partners to contribute to the Minnesota State Lidar Plan and to the USGS 3DEP grant process.

The 3DGeo Committee plans to submit a USGS 3DEP application by November 1, 2019 to support lidar data acquisition in Northeastern Minnesota, the first phase of the Minnesota State Lidar Plan. Could your organization be a project funder, in-kind supporter, or be of help in the grant process by describing how lidar data and derived products support your work?

Join us in West Duluth to learn more about the Minnesota Lidar Plan and how to support the short-term goal of funding lidar collection in Northeastern Minnesota.
