IRRRB News - June 2014
Magnetation recently held an open house
in celebration of its fourth plant on the Iron Range. The plant, located near Coleraine,
will be a 2 million metric tonne per year iron ore beneficiation facility that
extracts and processes iron-bearing tailings leftover from previous mining
operations to produce high quality iron ore concentrate.
When the plant is at
peak construction this summer, 400 to 500 workers will be on site. The plant, scheduled to be operational in January 2015, is forecasted to
permanently employ about 180 people.

Spectrum Health Companies held a groundbreaking ceremony on June 4 for Aurora Carefree Living, a 46-unit
assisted living and memory care building in Aurora. The facility will serve up
to 56 residents and employ 30 to 35 people. The new Carefree Living community will offer high quality
accommodations, services and personal assistance designed to promote
independent lifestyles within a safe and secure setting.
“The City of Aurora and the IRRRB were both instrumental in
helping us to quickly move this project from planning to construction. Aurora
is a wonderful community, a great place to live, and there is an immediate need
for memory care services and assisted living both within the community and in
the surrounding area. We are very excited to be part of the community” said
Merle Sampson, Spectrum’s owner and CEO.

Mesabi Musical Theatre (MMT) will present Chicago at the Mesabi Range College auditorium in Virginia, June 19-22 and 26-29. Shows run at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and at 4 p.m. Sunday.
A tale of crime and punishment, Chicago takes audiences on a jazzy trip to the Windy City during the height of Prohibition. When infamy goes to their heads, two murderesses fight for the attention of the sensationalist media, with assistance from a smooth-talking attorney and a crooked prison matron.
Chicago debuted on Broadway in 1975, has been revived several times, and was adapted into a Miramax film, which won the 2002 Academy Award for Best Picture.
