What you need to know Monday, March 17 at the Minnesota House of Representatives
Welcome back for another week under the Capitol dome. The calendar keeps marching toward May — are you aware the Twins first regular-season game is in just 10 days?
The House is expected to be back at full strength Monday afternoon when Rep.-elect David Gottfried (DFL-Shoreview) is scheduled to be sworn in during the day's 3:30 p.m. floor session. Gottfried won the District 40B special election last Tuesday.
A dozen bills are on the Calendar for the Day, including HF4 to propose a constitutional amendment requiring a portion of a projected budget surplus be returned to the state taxpayers. Six amendments are ready to be offered.
Earlier in the afternoon, at 1 p.m. the House Agriculture Finance and Policy Committee has on its docket HF821, which would provide funding for nitrate private well mitigation. And the House Health Finance and Policy Committee has HF794 on its agenda; that's a bill to establish a dementia services program on its agenda.
Also at 1 p.m., the House Elections Finance and Government Operations Committee plans to take up HF1051 to amend sacred community requirements and authorize cities to establish an approval process for sacred communities.
