What you need to know Thursday, Feb. 29 at the Minnesota House of Representatives
As 2024 is a leap year, there are 366 days on this year’s calendar and today is that “bonus” day.
And it's a day that could set help shape the remainder of the 2024 legislative session.
Lawmakers will learn whether there is additional money on the state’s bottom line Thursday at 8:30 a.m., when Minnesota Management and Budget officials present the February 2024 Budget and Economic Forecast.
The forecast released in early December projected a budget surplus of $2.4 billion for the current biennium but also warned of a similar structural imbalance in the following biennium.
More than a dozen hearings are also scheduled, highlighted by the public safety committee hearing two gun bills: HF4300 would establish standards for the safe storage of firearms, and HF601 would require that lost or stolen firearms be promptly reported to law enforcement.
There is also a 3:30 p.m. floor session on the day's schedule; no bills are on the Calendar for the Day.
