What you need to know Monday, May 8 at the Minnesota House of Representatives
What will we be doing two weeks from now?
The legislative session must end by Monday, May 22, meaning everyone at the Capitol will either be running on adrenaline in the final hours of a mad dash to get over the finish line or — just maybe — well rested and back to work after lawmakers finished their work early.
The House Ways and Means Committee has a 10 a.m. meeting this morning to hear HF3288 that would appropriate money to settle claims against the state.
There is also an 11 a.m. floor session with two bills on the Calendar for the Day, one of which, HF402, seeks additional state oversight of some health care business transactions by requiring a review of the proposed sale or merger of two hospitals or health care systems to determine whether it would benefit the public or improve health outcomes for Minnesotans. The proposal is, in part, a response to the proposed merger of Minnesota-based Fairview Health Services and South Dakota-based Sanford Health.
Conference committees also figure to be hard at work. But because the House and Senate alternate control and scheduling of those meetings, and due to the fluid nature of events this time of year, the most comprehensive list of upcoming conference committee meetings can be found on the Combined Legislative Meeting Calendar.
