Following months of negotiations, the new multimodal transit hub being constructed by Hennepin County next to Target Field will officially be named Target Field Station.
Today, the County Board approved a variety of terms for a public/private development agreement enhancing the new multimodal hub with partners including the Minnesota Twins, United Properties, Target Corporation and Metro Transit.
Other features of the public/private partnership to enhance the transit hub include:
• The Twins and United Properties will pay the county $1.95 million for naming, programming and other rights on the new site.
• The Twins will pay for a large video display board and will invest another $1 million in additional project enhancements.
• Metro Transit will have a police headquarters office building on-site.
• Metro Transit and the Twins will share the operating, maintenance and security responsibilities for the site.
• United Properties will lease out commercial retail space on the site, and will have an option to build an office building above the Metro Transit police headquarters.
As part of the improvements already under construction, there will be better queuing space for transit riders, green space where people can gather and relax, an amphitheater and other amenities. Target Field Station is expected to open in Spring 2014. For more information, visit www.theinterchange.net.
