HCSO is Proud to Support Our Employees Who Serve

arneson

HCSO is proud to support our employees who also serve in the National Guard and Reserves.  We thank our veteran employees for presenting the agency with a U.S. flag that was flown in more than a dozen locations overseas, including on board two aircraft carriers.  A total of four different HCSO Deputies flew the flag at a variety of locations during their deployments from 2009-2012.  Detention Deputy Chad Arnesen (seen in the photo with Sheriff Stanek) is the most recent HCSO employee to return from deployment with the flag.  He provided a timeline of its remarkable journey. Among the locations where the flag was flown or traveled include: Iraq, Ireland, Germany, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, and several U.S. bases as well.

FBI Raid on Prostitution: Four Arrested in Twin Cities

HCSO personnel recently participated in a major law enforcement initiative, Operation Cross Country—a three-day nationwide enforcement action focusing on underage victims of prostitution. It concluded with the recovery of 105 sexually exploited children and the arrests of 150 pimps and other individuals. There were four pimps arrested in the Twin Citites.

The sweep took place in 76 cities and was carried out by the FBI in partnership with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

August 6, 2013: National Night Out/ Night to Unite

national

You are invited to participate in National Night Out/Night to Unite on August 6, 2013.  Check with your community for locations and times for large, public events. Or, in the evening, host your own get-together by simply gathering neighbors outside with lawn chairs and a pitcher of lemonade.  The gathering may be casual, but the goal is important -- connect with neighbors, meet local law enforcement, and commit to improving public safety on your street and for your family. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office will distribute information about responsible gun ownership, and will provide free gun locks at several National Night Out locations including large events in Brooklyn Park, Brooklyn Center, Plymouth, and Minneapolis.  Deputies, Sheriff Stanek, and many personnel will visits dozens of neighborhood events to answer questions about crime prevention.

New Mid-Year Crime Statistics

tape

Newly-released statistics provide an estimate of crime in the county midyear for 2013.  When comparing January -June, 2012 to the first six months in 2013, statistics show that crime has decreased countywide.

For property crime, there’s a 7% reduction and for violent crime there’s an 8% reduction. 2012 had one of the lowest levels of violent crime countywide in more than two decades and 2013 is trending even lower for both violent crime and property crime.

Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek credits the hard work of all 37 local police departments in the county and the Sheriff’s Office for contributing to the reduction of crime. Law enforcement has greatly-enhanced its inter-agency collaboration, as well as partnerships with local residents.

“I urge residents to remain vigilant in the fight against crime,” said Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek, “Neighbors, business owners, students, and all residents are essential partners with law enforcement in preventing criminal activity and we urge everyone to take common-sense precautions and to report suspicious activity.”

Residents may call 911 or they may call their local law enforcement agency. To provide crime tips, several new anonymous reporting options are now available, including texting.  Text HCSOtip to 847 411.
