HCSO To Adopt Appointment System for Permit To Carry Applications
June 25, 2020 (Minneapolis) -Since the beginning of pandemic, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office has maintained full operations for issuing permits to carry firearms in room 22 of Minneapolis City Hall. We have adjusted the layout of the office and added technology to protect our staff and the public applying for permits.
As we continue to adjust to best practices for managing public contact during a pandemic, and to reduce wait time for people seeking permits, we will be going to an appointment system for receiving permits effective Wednesday July 1, 2020.
People walking in without an appointment will not be able to apply for a permit.
Those seeking a permit to carry a firearm will need to make an appointment by calling 612-348-8008. At their appointment time, permit seekers should bring their completed application, application fee (payable by cash or check, or credit card with an additional 2.5% processing fee) and Identification. Details can be found here. We anticipate appointments should last about ten minutes.
Per Executive Order, the City of Minneapolis requires all people coming into City Hall to wear face masks.
