Yesterday, 76 organizations in Hennepin County received the 2019 Wellness by Design Award for excellence in worksite wellness.
The award recognizes organizations that make employee health a priority through creative and effective wellness initiatives.
Hennepin County Public Health hosted the award ceremony at the Maple Grove Community Center. Guest speaker Shamayne Braman of HealthPartners addressed health equity in the workplace and the role it plays in worksite wellness.
“Because health equity stems from systemic challenges, wellness programs cannot solve health equity, but they can create an inclusive culture that advances equity in wellbeing for all employees,” Braman said.
Wellness by Design Awards are presented to Hennepin County employers that demonstrate accomplishments in management support, wellness infrastructure, communication, and programming directed at improving employee health.
A “+Green” designation was also awarded to 22 of the 76 Wellness by Design recipients. This designation recognizes companies that minimize their impact on the environment.
Wellness programs benefit employees and employers
Worksite wellness programs can improve employee performance, increase engagement, lower healthcare costs, and build community. Effective programs create a culture of health that affect all employees.
Following the ceremony, award winners commented on the positive focus the awards bring to their organizations’ worksite wellness efforts.
“It’s inspiring to hear what other companies are doing and gives worksite wellness validity”, said Laura Barmore of RJM Construction in Golden Valley.
