First, I’m energized to share that I’ve been unanimously voted by my colleagues as Chair of the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners for 2019. I’m honored to accept the trust and responsibility this position holds.

As the county board kicks off its work for 2019, I first want to acknowledge how historic this new board is. My two newest colleagues sworn-in are the first Hennepin County Commissioners of color.

So much of the energy we felt at the swearing-in ceremony can be attributed to the people powered campaigns run by Commissioner Fernando, and Commissioner Conley. The engagement is exciting, welcomed, and is an inspiration to us all.

Voters turned out with a lot of hope in 2018. This energy is part of the momentum moving us toward an ever more ambitious and inclusive vision for the future of our county and region. Hennepin County remains dedicated to ensuring that government continues to serve as a safety net for those who need it, and a champion of the common good.

Together we have accomplished a lot in my first term, and I look forward to more in the next four years. At the top of my list: reforming our justice system to stop penalizing people for being poor, redesigning systems to expand housing stability for county residents, understanding ways the county’s health care system can position itself to be a public option, and continuing to defend all those who work, go to school, and live in Hennepin County from forces intended to fracture community.

These are ambitious goals, and will take partnership and collaboration across all sectors. I dive into that work in this new term with enormous fortitude because of the incredible engagement and support from community members like you.

Thank you! I look forward to our continued work together to bring opportunity to everyone in our community, to make our community all it can be.

Welcome

CCC
