Hennepin County weekly voting progress

Each week, Hennepin County will provide the latest stats on absentee voting progress and pre-registered voters for the 2018 Minnesota general election. Absentee voting in Minnesota began Friday, September 21.

Absentee voting

As of Monday, October 29, at 8 a.m. in Hennepin County:

Ballots issued

  • Total ballots issued (mail and in-person absentee voting) – 127,400
  • Ballots issued since Monday, October 22 – 25,200

 Ballots received and accepted

  • Total ballots received and accepted (mail and in-person absentee voting) – 82,000
  • Ballots received and accepted since Monday, October 22 – 29,900

For comparison, 8 days before the 2016 general election, 134,400 absentee ballots were issued and 102,200 were received and accepted in Hennepin County.

Hennepin County cities with the highest numbers of absentee voters:

  • Minneapolis: 20,790
  • Plymouth: 7,430
  • Bloomington: 7,100
  • Minnetonka: 6,040
  • Edina: 5,950

Pre-registered voters

Hennepin County has more than 766,000 pre-registered voters for the Minnesota general election. Voters can register at their polling place on Election Day, November 6.

Vote early

Eligible voters will place their ballots directly into a ballot counter when voting in person October 30-November 5.

Voting machines will record votes as they are turned in, but will not report results until after polls close on Election Day, November 6.

In-person absentee voting is available now at city halls across Hennepin County and at the Early Vote Center in downtown Minneapolis. Each city location can accommodate voters who live in that particular city.
