The Hennepin County Board of Commissioners set a public hearing to receive testimony from the public on proposed revisions to Ordinance 13 – Recycling.
The hearing will be held before the Public Works Committee of the county board.

The next draft of the revised ordinance will be posted online and an e-notice will be sent no later than September 17, 2018, for the public to review prior to the public hearing.
After the public hearing, additional edits may be made to the ordinance before the final version is submitted to the board. Board deliberation and potential approval of the ordinance revisions is anticipated to be in November 2018.
Last month, the county distributed its draft revisions to the recycling ordinance to seek input from cities, businesses, waste haulers and others that may be affected by the ordinance revisions. The county received about 300 comments. Staff reviewed the comments and are making edits to the ordinance based on this feedback. A report summarizing the feedback will be available by September 17, 2018.
This phase of engagement efforts focused on getting feedback on the proposed draft language primarily from businesses and organizations that may be affected by the proposed ordinance revisions. The county sent information directly to cities, businesses, multifamily properties and licensed waste haulers and provided information for trade associations to share with their members. The county also shared information through existing county communication channels, such as e-newsletters and social media. Approximately 28,000 individuals were solicited to provide feedback by a completing an online survey or sending a written response.
