Welcome to Health@Work's newsletter. The purpose of Health@Work's monthly E-tips is to help you promote better health at your workplace.

Time and money are always at a premium, but you can enrich your wellness program while stretching your budget with the many no- and low-cost wellness resources that are available right here in the Twin Cities. Here are some local organizations to get you started:

 


Mental well-being

DARTS

Offers one-hour workplace seminars about resources for caregivers.

 

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Minnesota

Provides classes, workshops, presentations, and resources about mental illness.

 

Make It OK

Offers online information, videos, campaign toolkit, and presentations, as well as a free speakers’ bureau to reduce the stigma of mental illness.

 

Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging education programs

Provides workplace presentations about aging and caregiving.

 

Physical well-being

Commuter Services

Provides many resources for employers around carpooling and other mass transit, including health fair resources and a free bike rack for workplaces.


University of Minnesota Master Gardeners

Hennepin County smoke-free signs  (look under the Restrictions Countywide tab)

Businesses located in Hennepin County can order smoke-free signs to post at workplace entrances. 

 

American Heart Association Midwest Affiliate

Offers free hard copy and downloadable materials for health fairs.

 

HealthPartners yumPower toolkit

Educate employees about better food decision making with the resources in this toolkit.

 

University of Minnesota School of Public Health Guidelines for Offering Healthy Foods at Meetings, Seminars and Catered Events

Use this guide to serve healthier options at workplace meetings and events.


Minnesota Safety Council

Provides classes and resources for staying safe at home and at work.

 

Financial well-being

Family Means

Offers onsite financial education presentations, online financial education courses, and health fair resources.

 

Remember to promote the resources you already have:

  • Quiet/meditation/nursing mothers room
  • Onsite or nearby walking routes
  • Bike racks
  • Exercise room
  • Stairways
  • Ergonomic consultations
  • Employee assistance program (EAP)
  • Discounts for employees, such as MERSC, mass transit, or gym memberships
  • Tobacco cessation resources available through your health plan
  • 401(k) or credit union representative who can speak at your workplace
