Immigrants Telling Their Life Stories

Green Card Voices will have two exhibits on display in the Hennepin Gallery from now until October 29.

The photo exhibit of “Immigrants Telling Their Life Stories” uses digital storytelling to share personal narratives of America’s immigrants, fostering tolerance and establishing a better understanding between the immigrant and non-immigrant populations, as part of its mission to share immigrant stories with as many people possible.

The exhibit features 20 Twin Cities’ immigrants and includes their portraits, their 200-word bio, a quote and a QR code. Viewers can scan the QR code with an iPhone or an iPad and watch the first-person video story. Green Card Youth Voices Exhibit will be displayed during September, and the Green Card Adults Voices Exhibit will be displayed during October. The Green Card Youth Exhibit is based on the award winning book "Green Card Youth Voices: Immigration Stories from a Minneapolis High School," which is based on stories of students originally from 13 countries attending an all-immigrant public high school, Wellstone International, in Minneapolis.

Green Card Voices, a nonprofit organization based in Minneapolis, Minn., produced the exhibit.

The Hennepin Gallery is free and open to the public Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Hennepin County Government Center, A-level, 300 South Sixth Street, Minneapolis.

The exhibit is sponsored by Hennepin County Project Diversity Hispanic Latino Committee. The Hennepin Gallery is a project of Hennepin County Communications.
