Law enforcement to replace U.S. flag in Government Center

During a ceremony next week, more than 30 local law enforcement officers and veterans will retire and then replace the 20-by-30-foot flag hanging in the Hennepin County Government Center skyway.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard, Minneapolis Police Honor Guard and Hennepin County veterans will perform the flag replacement ceremony.

Monday, May 15, 11:30 a.m.

More details

The flag has been on display since September 2002. During a ceremony at the Government Center commemorating the anniversary of 9/11, law enforcement raised the flag using the Minneapolis Fire Department’s aerial ladders.

On Monday, law enforcement will also participate in the National Peace Officers Memorial Day ceremony in the Minneapolis City Hall Rotunda. That event is one of many occurring across the nation to honor and remember law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.
