Volunteers sought for two citizen advisory boards

The Hennepin County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications for vacancies on the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Board and on the Lower Minnesota River Watershed District Board.

Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Board 

This board currently seeks to fill an opening in the organized labor category. 

This board develops and studies programs to provide jobs for unemployed people in suburban Hennepin and Carver counties by increasing the involvement of the business community in employment and training. The board also analyzes needs for employment and training services, makes recommendations about program plans and basic goals, evaluates employment and training programs, and recommends strategies to increase private-sector employment opportunities for economically disadvantaged residents.

Members serve a three-year term and meet monthly, usually on the second Monday of the month from noon to 1:30 p.m. at various locations.

The incumbent for this position, Jenny Winkelaar, is seeking reappointment.

The application deadline is Thursday, April 27.

Lower Minnesota River Watershed District Board 

This board coordinates the management of water and related land resources in the watershed that drains into the Minnesota River. The watershed district board is made up of five members. Carver, Scott and Dakota counties each appoint one member, and Hennepin County appoints two. The district includes portions of Bloomington and Eden Prairie in Hennepin County.

Because of the nature of the board, it is helpful for members to have a background in water conservation, development, law, engineering, environment or public administration. Members serve three-year terms.

A watershed district board member may not be a public officer of the county, state or federal government and must be a resident of the district. Meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Scott County Government Center in Shakopee.

The incumbent for this position is not seeking reappointment.
