Recognition and certification available for farming practices that protect water

Farmers and agricultural landowners can apply now for a new state program that offers certification and recognition for implementing water conservation practices that protect water quality on their land.

By participating in the voluntary Minnesota Agriculture Water Quality Certification, landowners get:

Priority for technical help

Landowners interested in certification get priority for technical assistance to install practices that protect water quality.

Recognition

The certification recognizes landowners for taking the lead in protecting water quality. Businesses can promote their certification to show customers they care about protecting the environment.

Regulatory certainty

Certified landowners get regulatory certainty, which means they are deemed to be in compliance with both existing and new water quality rules for the 10-year duration of their certification.

Get started

Enrollment in the Minnesota Agriculture Water Quality Certification Program requires an application, an on-farm assessment and verification. Assistance is available to help landowners with each step. For more information, call Hennepin County Environment and Energy at 612-348-2027 or visit the program webpage, www.mda.state.mn.us/awqcp.
